There is nothing quite like the feeling a bride gets as she walks down the aisle on her wedding day, her groom nervously waiting at the end, about to embark upon the biggest adventure of their lives. It’s the moment every bride dreams about, but it’s also one that many fret about. There are a lot of components involved with a successful walk down the aisle, some of which are out of a bride’s control, which means that while she may not have thought much about it before her engagement, she’s bound to get a few sleepless nights from the ‘what ifs’ that run through her head in the lead up to her nuptials. Luckily, it is something that can be almost perfected with careful planning, so we’ve put together a list of tips to make sure the most important walk of your life goes off without a hitch.
A Question of Music
When it comes to the music you have chosen to walk down the aisle, it’s important to select something with a steady, slow tempo. This doesn’t necessarily mean you need to be able to hear a drum beat, but one of the best ways to ensure a smooth entrance for the bridal party is to have a consistent speed. Fewer modern couples choose a traditional bridal march these days, opting instead for music that has personal significance to their relationship. It is important, however, not to become too concerned with choosing a song with prior meaning to both of you–remember, you still have a bridal waltz to choose–rather, choose an entrance song that has a tone, feeling and lyrics that encapsulate the moment.
Practice Makes Perfect
On your wedding rehearsal, one of the most important things to practice is the entrance of the bridal party. Don’t assume that the groomsmen and groom will automatically know when and how they are going to enter, either–the more structure the entrances have, the less room for confusion. A beautiful entrance is one in which all the minor details have been thought of. Things like having the bridesmaids hold their bouquets at consistent heights, having them enter at equal intervals from each other and waiting just the right amount of time before the bride herself makes the grand entrance are all elements that, when they come together properly, make for a stunning start to a wedding.
Just Breathe
It’s been said that the walk down the aisle is both the longest and shortest walk of your entire life, something most brides who have made the walk can probably attest to. It’s normal to be at your most nervous during this point, but it’s also important to let yourself experience excitement. Keep your breathing steady, focus on your groom and walk towards him as if you’re walking towards your future. Because you are.
There are so many points during weddings where guests are swept up in the emotion of the day and are able to feel part of something truly special. The moment when a bride walks down the aisle is, for many, the most beautiful part of a wedding–and for the couple themselves, it is something they’ll never forget.
